A 14 year old should have as much money as possible in their bank account. To get a more personal answer, talk to a financial adviser. Hint; talk to on that talks insurance.

I recently decided to cut our grocery budget in half. This required a whole new way of shopping and planning that I wasn't used to doing. So, I spent many hours blogging and here are a few of the ideas that are helping my reach that goal:

1. Double coupons. Rainbow allows you to double five manufacturers coupon up to $1 on Wednesdays. That means up to $2 off! I just "bought" 2 cans of Pillsbury Grands biscuits for free. You have to spend $25 but that is pre-coupon price. If you have more than 5 coupons you want to double, take more than one trip through the check out lane.

2. Stack coupons. Use a store coupon with a manufacturer coupon--almost all stores will allow this. This week Rainbow has a store coupon for Dawn for only 88 cents. This alone is an amazing price for Dawn. But, I have a .25 cent manufacturers coupon which will be doubled on Wednesday for a net price of 38 cents. It doesn't seem like much, but over time this adds up.

3. CVS/Walgreens loyalty programs. Both CVS and Walgreens have a loyalty program that will print a reward coupon to be used next time you go in. The coupon is for some $ amount off. I like the CVS program better because it's more flexible, but I do use them both.

4. Bread thrift store. I make my own bread, but I still go to the thrift store to get things like english muffins or bagels. My family loves Sara Lee bagels. They cost around 3.25 at the grocery store. The Taystee thrift store sells them for 1.88. If you go on Wednesday, you get an extra 10% off. And, if you really don't want to make your own bread, you can find all your favorite breads at amazing prices.
